ATTENTION SENIORS: FAFSA went live on October 1st. This is your ticket to FREE money to help pay for college! You should plan to complete it by the end of the month IF there is any possibility that you will attend college or a trade school. You DO NOT have to apply to colleges before completing your FAFSA.
Here are a few tips:
1 - Be sure you are completing the correct year for the FAFSA - 2021-2022
2 - If you are uncertain on whether the form is asking for student information or parent information - BE SURE to check which tab you are on.
3 - For most students, Parent / Guardian financial information is REQUIRED on the FAFSA form. If you have a different situation such as not living at home, living with a grandparent, are currently or have been in state's custody, or have a split household with divorced parents, be sure you check in with your guidance counselor. Claiming parent/guardian income may not be required in some circumstances.
4 - FSA IDs are required to submit your FAFSA for processing, it is basically your electronic signature. Both you AND your parent/guardian need one.
5 - If you have questions, PLEASE DON'T HESITATE to reach out to your guidance counselor. We can assist you and your parents/guardians with the form.

Seniors and Parents!
It is THAT time... where you should be preparing to file your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA form is an ONLINE application and goes live on October 1, 2020.
As we prepare to get this done, there are a few pieces of information you will need to gather:
1 - Parent/Guardian Tax return for 2019
2 - Student Tax return for 2019 (if you filed one)
3 - Social Security Numbers
4 - A list of your potential colleges and trade schools
HAVE NO FEAR! The online application is NOT super difficult and WE ARE here to help you!
The Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) has put together a fabulous presentation about financial aid in general and the application process. As you prepare to file, give their video a watch. Here is the link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OX60r8u3T2o&t=307s
We will be emailing you next week with links to the FAFSA form, tips, and recommendations. Prepare NOW and file within the next few weeks! Give us a shout in the guidance office if you have any questions!
